Perry Lee "In Loving Memory" Canton- Perry "Reeves" Lee, age 71, passed away on Monday, November 10, 2014 at Memorial Mission Hospital after an 11 year battle of chronic lung disease. He was born on May 18, 1943 and a long-time resident of Haywood County. Perry, better known as "Reeves" by friends and family, graduated from Canton High School in 1961. He was the son of the late Walter Perry and Mamie Ledford Lee and preceded by a brother, Garland Lee. He served as a Military Police Officer in the United States Air Force from 1962-1966 during the Vietnam War and was honorably discharged in September 1966. Reeves dedicated many years to Champion Paper Mill where he retired in 2003. He had many hobbies including rock hunting, cutting and fashioning gemstones, collecting movies, tubing, camping, and dune buggy riding. Reeves was full of laughs and always had a story to tell, a good joke to share or a mischievous prank up his sleeve. Reeves is survived by his wife, Michele Lee, of Canton, NC; four daughters, Cynthia Golden (Tommy), of Clyde, NC, Emma Reeves, of Waynesville, NC, Patricia Cox, of Canton, NC, and Sherri Scalf of Williamsburg, KY; a son, Robert Reeves of Hendersonville, NC;a brother, Jerry Lee, (Hazel) of Bethel, NC; three sisters; Janie Lee of Canton, NC, Eunice Tingle of Cruso, NC, and Linda Burrell of Candler, NC; 11 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; and his 4-legged best friend of 17 years, Comet. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, November 13, 2014 at Wells Funeral Home of Canton. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, November 14, 2014 at the Western Carolina State Veterans Cemetery in Black Mountain. The family would like to thank Dr. Richard Harsch, Dr. Harry Lipham, Dr. Nancy Freeman and the many other physicians and caregivers of Haywood and Buncombe counties that provided quality care to Perry Reeves Lee.
