Perry William Plemmons, age 83, of Monte Vista Drive died Friday, October 21, 2005 in Waynesville. He was a native of Spring Creek, Madison County and a resident of Haywood County since 1948. He was the son of the late Jones and Alice Price Plemmons. He was preceded in death by his wife Mildred Rhinehart Plemmons, who died in 2004, and a sister Lottie Plemmons Reed. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Waynesville where he formerly served as chairman of the Finance Committee. He attended Western Carolina Teacher's College and received his Bachelor of Science Degree from the University of Miami and a Masters Degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He taught school at Spring Creek High School and served as principal for Fines Creek, Clyde , Bethel , and Tuscola High Schools. He retired after 23 years to devote his time to Plemmons Plumbing & Heating which he and his wife co-owned. He was a Flight Officer in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II. He was a member of Waynesville Rotary and a Paul Harris Fellow, a member of North Carolina State Qualifications Board for Plumbing and Heating Contractors, past president of North Carolina Christmas Tree Growers Association, founding member of the Haywood County Fruit & Vegetable Cooperative, a member of the NC Crop Improvement Program, a Lifetime Honorary member of the Spring Creek Volunteer Fire Department. Mr. Plemmons held a commercial pilot certificate and was a former member of Lions Club and Tuscola Activities Committee. He is survived by three sons; Kent J. Plemmons and his wife Eileen, Keith J. Plemmons, and Michael P. Plemmons and his wife Phyllis, all of Waynesville; a niece Louise Reed Hooper, two step-grandchildren and one step great-grandchild. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, October 25, 2005 at First Baptist Church of Waynesville with the Reverend W. T. Medlin and Reverend F. S. James officiating. Burial will follow at Garrett-Hillcrest Memorial Park with military graveside rites conducted by VFW Post 5202 and American Legion Post 47. The family will receive friends from 7:00 - 9:00 p.m. Monday at Wells Funeral Home of Waynesville where the body will remain until placed in the church 30 minutes prior to the service. Pallbearers will be Mike Corbin, Ted Underwood, Dwight Plemmons, Charles Beall, Roger McElroy, and R. Neal Ensley. Honorary pallbearers will be Fred Fuller, James Hooper, Ray Seay, and Bill Kanos. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to Lusk Chapel Baptist Church, Attn: Etta Payne, 19250 NC Hwy. 209, Hot Springs, NC 28743.
