Pete Stamey, passed away on June 28, 2024 surrounded by his family. He was born on February 6, 1947, in Buncombe County.
During his life, Pete proudly served as a Vietnam War veteran in the Army and was honored with a Purple Heart for his bravery and sacrifice. Aside from his military service, Pete was a long-standing member of Ridgeway Baptist Church, where he faithfully served for many years. His commitment to his faith was unwavering, and he found joy in farming and caring for his cattle. Pete was also a dedicated employee of Champion Papermill, retiring after 37 years of service. Pete's impact is deeply felt by those who survive him.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 33 years, Diane Stamey, of Candler; his daughter, Monica Rathbone, and her husband, Kaleb, of Waynesville; as well as his four beautiful grandchildren: Mason, Grant, Reid, and Josiah. Pete was preceded in death by his parents, Claude and Eula Morgan Stamey.
Funeral services will be held 3:00 p.m. Sunday, June 30, 2024, at Ridgeway Baptist Church in Candler with pastors Jackie Collins, Mike Leslie, and Jacob Ellidge officiating. Burial will follow the service at Ridgeway Baptist Church cemetery with military rites to be rendered. The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. at the church.
The care of Mr. Stamey has been entrusted to Wells Funeral Home of Canton.
