Philip Burns, Sr.

Waynesville, Philip J. Burns, Sr., age 73, passed away on Monday, February 20, 2012 at MedWest-Haywood. A native of Boston, Massachusetts, he was a former resident of Boone, North Carolina before moving to Haywood County in 2008. He was the son of the late Frederick and Margaret Doble Burns, but was raised by Louis B. and Sarah Linsenmeyer. He was also preceded in death by a foster sister, Louise Linsenmeyer. Philip was a US Army National Guard retiree with 20-years service and a tile and marble setter by trade. He was a member of the Brick Layers Mason Union in Boston, Massachusetts and was of Catholic faith. He is survived by three sons, Philip J. Burns, Jr. of North Attleboro, Massachusetts, William L. Burns and his wife, Diane, of Hammond, New Jersey and Kenneth J. Burns and his wife, Maria, of Hanson, Massachuesetts; one brother, Robert Tierney of Cape Cod, Massachusetts; and seven grandchildren. A memorial service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, 90 Stiles Road, Canton, NC 28716.
