Phillip Garland

Canton–Phillip Harold "Phil" Garland, age 54, of Sunset Heights died Saturday, January 9, 2010, at Mission Hospitals Memorial Campus. In Phil's early years he lived in Miami, FL and had resided in Haywood County since 1974. He was the son of Joan Garland of Canton and the late Harold C. Garland. He was also preceded in death by a sister, Joni Elaine Garland and his maternal grandmother, Clara May McCracken. He was an employee of Evergreen Packaging with 34 years of service and was a member of Plains United Methodist Church. He is survived by his wife of 30 years, Sandra Wills Garland; a son, Clayton Henry Garland and a daughter, Casey Ann Garland, both of Raleigh; two brothers, Jack McCracken Garland of Chicago, IL and Richard Clayton Garland of Waynesville; and his mother and father in-law, Charles and Ruth Wills of Canton. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, January 12, 2010, at the Canton Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with the Reverend Michael Austin and Father Tim McRee officiating. Burial will follow at Plains United Methodist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. At other times, the family will be at the home.
