Waynesville-Phillip "Weed" Harris, age 54, of 219 Red Maple Drive, died Tuesday, January 4, 2005 at Memorial Mission Hospital. He was a native of Haywood County and the son of the late Roy and Retha Finger Harris. He was also preceded in death by a sister, Kathy Harris Mekeldrey. He was employed at Teague's Superette and was a former employee of Waynesville Junior High School. He was an Army Veteran of Vietnam and was a member of Dellwood Baptist Church. He loved working and coaching children in little league football and baseball. He is survived by his wife of 24 years, Wanda Evans Harris; two sons, Bryan Arrington and his wife, Carrie of Waynesville, and Steve Arrington and his wife, Kelly of Raleigh, NC; a sister, Karen Harris of Tiger, Georgia; a brother, Monty Harris of Maggie Valley; and two grandsons, Joshua and Chase Arrington. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, January 7, 2005 in the Waynesville chapel of Wells Funeral Homes & Cremation Services with the Reverend Bryan Arrington and Reverend Jason Ledford officiating. Burial will be at Garrett-Hillcrest Memorial Gardens. Military graveside rites will be conducted by the VFW Post 5202 and the American Legion Post 47. The family will receive friends from 7:00 until 9:00 p.m. Thursday, January 6, 2005, at the funeral home. At other times, the family will be at the residence. The pallbearers will be Bobby Messer, David and Tommy Finger, David Buchanan, Shannon Evans, and Trent Harris. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, 90 Stiles Road, Canton, NC 28716.
