Clyde – Phillip Robert "P.R." Smith, age 74, went home to be with his heavenly Father, on Monday, June 11, 2012 at his residence after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born in Winston-Salem, raised in Florence, South Carolina, then moved to Haywood County where he resided for most of his life. Phillip was a son of the late James Melvin and Sue Jones Royal Smith. He was a United States Navy veteran and was a member of Lake Junaluska First Baptist Church. Phillip enjoyed golfing, boating and camping. He is survived by his wife of 20 years, Evelyn Mann Smith; one son, Michael Webb of Asheville; one daughter, Marianna Honeycutt and her husband, Terry, of Killen, Alabama; two sisters; Barbara Rogers of Clover, South Carolina, and Sandra Horton and her husband, Lynwood, of Bethune, South Carolina; and two grandchildren; Hunter Webb and Jennifer Honeycutt Johnson and her husband, Bradley. Also left behind, Alex Smith, Gene Driver, Robin Woods, Tammy Gibson, and their families; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 14, 2012 in the Canton Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with the Reverend James Huey and Reverend Darrell Webb officiating. Burial will follow at Crawford/Ray Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 12:30 until 1:45 p.m. prior to the service.
