Phoebe Huffman

Phoebe Duckett Huffman, age 95, of 9 Huffman Drive died Monday, December 4, 2006, at Haywood Regional Medical Center. She was a native of Buncombe County and the daughter of the late James Robert and Lola Hill Duckett. She was preceded in death by her husband, Abe S. Huffman, who died in 1984; a brother, Charlie Duckett; six sisters, Lottie Bumgarner Edwards, Grace Coffey, Gertrude Robinson, Hannah McCracken, Pearl Carswell and Lucy Hicks; and two grandsons Chuck and Donnie Pee. She retired from Haywood County School System where she worked as a cook and server at Pisgah High School. Phoebe loved to travel throughout the United States with various travel groups. She had a special place in her heart for her church family at West Canton Baptist and most of all she loved her children and grandchildren. She is survived by three daughters, Peggy Mease, Wanda Pee, and Carolyn Hipps and her husband, Lonnie, all of Canton; a son, William R. Huffman and his wife, Dorothy, of Canton; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, December 7, 2006, at the Canton chapel of Wells Funeral Home with the Reverend W. O. Henson and Reverend Jerry Ensley officiating. Burial will follow at Bon-A-Venture Cemetery, Old Clyde Road. The family will receive friends from 6:00 - 9:00 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
