Phyllis Pomerleau Chambers, age 88, of the Riverside community passed away on Friday, November 2, 2012 at The Homestead. A native of Cumberland County, Maine, she resided in Haywood County since 1954 and was the daughter of the late William Alexis and Doris Eastman Pomerleau. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence Hubert Chambers, who died in 2010; three brothers, Robert Pomerleau, William Alexis Pomerleau, Jr., and Herman Pomerleau; and a grandson, Anthony Chambers. She was a member of Riverside Baptist Church where she began the food ministry and was the choir director for many years. Phyllis at her core was a caregiver, always thinking and giving to others during her lifetime. She loved caring for others, especially those in need. She is survived by two sons, Wayne Chambers and his wife, Martha, of Clarksville, Tennessee and Steve Chambers of Waynesville; four sisters, Teresa DeIuliis and her husband, Luke of Washington, DC, Louise Knauss and her husband, Dan, of Mt. Vernon, Virginia, Roberta DeVall of Panama City Beach, Florida, and Joan Browning of the Bethel community of Waynesville; two grandchildren, Angelia Henderson and her husband, Derek, and Eric Chambers and his wife, Donna; three great-grandchildren, Ashtin Strickland, Kirstin Henderson, and Christopher Premeaux; and many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, November 4, 2012 at the Canton Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with the Reverend Steve Frazier and Reverend Jesse Hollingsworth officiating. Burial will follow at Riverside Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:30 until 3:00 p.m. prior to the service.
