Canton – Poley Lance, 95, passed away on Wednesday, February 26, 2020 at Silver Bluff Nursing Home.
Poley was born in Georgia moving at a young age to Canton, NC where he was raised. Poley was the son of the late William Arthur and Rosie Crane Lance. He was also preceded in death by his wife of 70 years, Louise Shipman Lance, who died in 2018; a granddaughter, two brothers, and two sisters. Poley was owner and operator of Lance’s Automotive. For many years, Poley would dress in his blue pants and button-down shirt and service countless cars in the Canton community. In the summer, Poley and Louise enjoyed travelling to Myrtle Beach and deep-sea fishing. Poley also cherished his travels throughout the U.S. visiting grandbabies near and far. He was an Army veteran serving during World War II and an active member of Beulah Baptist Church.
He is survived by three daughters, Nancy Fish of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, Karen Griffin, and her husband, Kevin, of Candler, and Joy Wright, and her husband, Colin, of Hanford, California; a son, James Lance, and his wife, Donez, of Waynesville; six grandchildren and a step-grandson; four great-grandchildren and two step-great-granddaughters.
Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 29, 2020 at Beulah Baptist Church with the Reverend Barry Clark officiating. Burial will follow at Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church. The family will receive friends from 2:00 until 3:00 p.m. prior to the service at the church.
