R. Downs

Clyde-Robert Lawrence Downs, age 85, of 1085 Old Clyde Road, died Sunday, October 5, 2003 at his residence.

He was a native of Haywood County and was the son of the late Lloyd Alonzo and Clearcy Morrow Downs.

He was a retired service supervisor with Suburban Propane. He was a deacon and a very active member of Woodland Baptist Church, serving in many capacities. He was a charter member of the Haywood County Rescue Squad. He was an Army veteran having served during WWII. He loved woodworking, fishing, and camping.

He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Noda Price Downs; a son, Larry Downs and his wife, Gail of Duncan, SC; two daughters, Janet Robinson and her husband, Ronny of Jacksonville, FL and Judy Henline and her husband, Gary of Leland, NC; a sister, Pauline Tipton of Candler; eight grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, October 8, 2003 at the Woodland Baptist Church. The Reverend Alan Davis and Reverend Glen Rogers will officiate. Burial will follow at Garrett-Hillcrest Memorial Park. Military graveside rites will be conducted by VFW Post 5202 and American Legion Post 47. The family will receive friends from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. Tuesday, October 7, 2003 at Wells Funeral Home in Waynesville. At other times the family will be at the residence.

The pallbearers will be the Woodland Baptist Church deacons.
