Rachel Smathers

Waynesville - Rachel Ann Morgan Smathers, age 77, of 382 Fox Fire Estate Circle died Monday, March 12, 2007 at Pisgah Manor Nursing Home. She was a native and lifelong resident of Haywood County and a daughter of the late Rufus and Annie Smathers Morgan. She was preceded in death by her husband, Stuart Beasley Smathers, who died in 2002; one son, Michael Smathers, and three brothers, Arnold, Rufus and Wexler Morgan. She had an AAS in nursing and was employed as a registered nurse at Haywood Regional Medical Center. Rachel was a member of Morning Star United Methodist Church where she taught Sunday school. She also loved gardening and had an ear for music, especially the piano. She is survived by one daughter, Elizabeth Ann Radabaugh and her husband, Greg, of San Antonio, TX; one son, Daniel Smathers of Canton; one sister, Penny Garren of Candler and one grandchild, Jason Hurst. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, March 16, 2007 at Morning Star United Methodist Church with Reverend Doug Love officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 12:30 until 2:00 p.m. prior to the service at the church. Wells Funeral Home of Canton is in charge of the arrangements.
