Rachel Thomason

Rachel Stamey Thomason, age 92, passed away on Wednesday, August 6, 2014 at Maggie Valley Nursing Home and Rehabilitation Center. A native and lifelong resident of Haywood County, she was the daughter of the late Mack and Ella Franklin Stamey. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Wiley Carroll Thomason who died 1988; two sons, Richard and James Thomason; and 12 brothers and sisters. She was a member of Welcome Hill Baptist Church. Rachel was special and loved by everyone who knew her. She always placed others before herself, especially her family whom she loved dearly. Rachel enjoyed cooking, shopping at yard sales with her daughter and caring for her special doll, "Kimmy". She is survived by a daughter, Jo Ann Jones of Canton; three sons, Lewis Thomason of Canton, Roger Thomason and his wife, Rita, of Casaer, North Carolina, and Jerry Thomason of Canton; 14 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, August 11, 2014 at the Canton Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with the Reverend Chris Jennings officiating. Burial will follow at Bon-A-Venture Cemetery, Newfound Road. The family will receive friends from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. The family wishes to express their appreciation to the staff of Maggie Valley Nursing and Rehabilitation Center for their love and care given to our mother and grandmother. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 3800 Shamrock Drive, Charlotte, NC 28215.
