Rachelle Wood

Rachelle Lankford Wood, born February 2, 1950, passed away on Wednesday, January 29, 2014 at Memorial Campus of Mission Hospitals. A native and lifelong resident of Haywood County, she was a daughter of the late Roy Leonard and Ruth Ann McAbee Lankford. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one brother, Leonard "Chief" Lankford. Rachelle was a hard worker and a great cook. Everyone who knew her loved her dearly. She enjoyed music, the gift of song, and having a fun time clowning around. She was an active participant in the Canton Senior Citizens Center. Rachelle's life was her family and she loved tending to her grandchildren. She is survived by her husband of 45 years, Danny Ray Wood, Sr.; three sons, Danny Ray Wood, Jr. and his wife, Christy, and Jodie Wood and his wife, Ashley, all of Bethel, and Jonathon Wood and Lyndsay Ingle, of Cruso; two sisters, Juanita Davis of Nashville, Tennessee and Carolyn Lankford of St. Petersburg, Florida; four grandchildren, Dalton Ray and Abigail Wood, Dallyn and Mitchell Ingle; and a special friend, Rose Shepherd. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 1, 2014 in the Canton Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with Pastor Dewayne Rathbone officiating. Burial will follow at Bethel Community Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 12:00 noon until 1:45 p.m. prior to the service. At other times, the family will be at the home of Danny Ray and Christy Wood in Bethel. Pallbearers will be sons, grandson, Brad Watson, Kelly Russell, and Daryl Henderson. Honorary pallbearers will be Jerry Dean and Dewayne Mehaffey.
