Ralph Miller

Ralph H. Miller, age 95, died Tuesday, November 6, 2007, at Silver Bluff Nursing Home. He was a native of Tennessee and had resided in Haywood County for over 80 years. He was the son of the late Joe S. and Bessie Murr Miller. He was preceded in death by his wife of 72 ½ years, Willa Mae Bolden "Willie" Miller who died in June 2007. He was also preceded in death by two brothers, Jesse Miller and his wife, Dora, and Clifton and his wife, Myrtle Miller; a sister, Mary Burnett and her husband, Bill; and a son-in-law, Oliver Clifford Large. He retired from Champion International in 1975 with 42 years of service. Ralph liked gardening, carpentry, along with doing wood carvings. He was a faithful and devoted member of Clyde Central United Methodist Church for over 70 years. Ralph had a great knowledge of the United Methodist hymnal quoting page numbers and hymns at the drop of a hat. He is survived by a daughter, Carolyn "Geraldine" Large of Waynesville; three grandchildren, Phyllis Large and her fiancé, Alexander Deeb of Canton, GA, Nancy Allen of Canton, GA, and Donna Barkson and her husband, Bert, of Atlanta, GA; five great-grandchildren, Erika Waterman, Noah and Nathan Barkson, and Hannah and Micah Allen; a great-great-grandson, Avery Waterman; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, November 9, 2007, at Clyde Central United Methodist Church with the Reverend Randall A. Tingle officiating. Entombment will follow at The Horizon at Crawford/Ray Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 12:00 noon until 12:45 p.m. prior to the service at the church.
