Randolph Dickins, Jr.

November 14, 1920 — March 7, 2004

Maggie Valley-Randolph Dickins, Jr., age 83, of 148 Market Street, died Sunday, March 7, 2004 at the VA Medical Center in Asheville.

Mr. Dickins was a graduate of the University of Miami, Florida. He resided in Florida from the mid 1960's until he retired to North Carolina in the early 1990's. He served in the United States Navy as Lt. Commander and was awarded the Navy Cross at Midway. Following the Navy, he entered the US Foreign Service as a Foreign Service Officer where he was assigned to the US Delegation to the United Nations in Geneva, Switzerland. Mr. Dickins served as Embassy Counselor in Beruit, Lebanon. He also served as an attaché to the American Embassy in Paris, Brussels, Iran, Bagdad, and Singapore. He was also a member of First Presbyterian Church of Waynesville.

He is survived by his wife of 16 years, Vanda Streller Dickins; two daughters, Page Randolph Thall of Orlando, FL and Kelly Jean Mason of Delray Beach, FL; two stepdaughters, Debra Lyn Kirby, and her husband, Tom, of Roundup, MT and Leslie Ann Bramlett, and her husband, Michael, of Gilbert, AZ; four sons, Randolph Dickins, III of Tiere Verde, FL, Tarlton Estes ''Ted'' Dickins and his wife, Sharon, of Macedonia, OH, Bruce Arnott Dickins and his wife, Barbara, of Tampa, FL, and Michael Dickins of Orlando, FL; one stepson, William Palmer Fulton, Jr., of Mesa, AZ; one sister, Zoya Arnott Dickins Miller, of Colorado Springs, CO; 13 grandchildren; and 3 great grandchildren.

Memorial services will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Friday, March 19, 2004 at First Presbyterian Church of Waynesville with Reverend Josh Cole officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following the service at the church.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Presbyterian Church of Waynesville, 305 N. Main Street, Waynesville, NC 28786.
