Waynesville – Randy Jack Cope, 62, of the Stamey Cove Community, passed away on Tuesday, June 15, 2021 at his residence.
Randy was a native and lifelong resident of Haywood County and a son of the late Jack and Ruth Ball Cope. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his paternal grandmother, Ada Taylor and his birth mother, Norcella Parris. Randy was a 1977 graduate of Pisgah High School and was a state champion wrestler in his senior year. Many will remember Randy and his passion for body building. His influence in athletics included coaching his son, Kurt, in youth league soccer and baseball. Randy was a great animal lover for the Mastiff dog breed and was well read in history.
He is survived by a loving wife, Micky Cope of Asheville; one son, Kurt Cope of Canton; two sisters, Mitzie Cope of Canton and Denise Finger (Tommy) of Maggie Valley; one brother, Will Parris of Pennsylvania; a great niece, Ada Marie Caldwell; a nephew, Patric Lachapelle; a niece, Holly and her husband, John Caldwell.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 19, 2021 at Wells Funeral Home in Canton. A celebration of life service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, June 21, 2021 at Canton Central United Methodist Church with the Reverend Erin Yow officiating. At other times, the family will be at the home of his sister, Mitzie Cope, 188 Cope Road in Canton.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Haywood County Rescue Squad – Canton, P.O. Box 1275, Canton, NC 28716.
