Ray Gordon Davis, age 84, passed into eternity with his Lord and Savior on March 3, 2014. Ray was born in Youngstown, Ohio on February 8, 1930 to the late Earl and Alma Davis and was preceded in death by two sisters, Betty Jean Messer and Evelyn Hoffman. Ray was a member of Pole Creek Baptist Church where he served as deacon, Sunday school teacher, and choir member for many years. He was a gunner's mate in the United States Navy while aboard the USS George Clymer during the Korean War. He was married to the late Ruby Davis for 58 years. He retired after 21 years at Southern Pump and Tank Company. He enjoyed raising a garden and woodworking. Ray is survived by his children, Gary Davis (Marcie) of Bat Cave, Carolyn McMahon (Ed) of Candler, Christy McPeak (Owen) of Kings Mountain. He has four grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. He is also survived by sisters Helen Burnette of Bethel, Wanda West (Joe) of Waynesville, and brothers, Earl Davis of Asheville and Richard Davis (Pauline) of Asheville. Funeral services will be held at 12:00 noon on Thursday, March 6, 2014 at the Canton Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with the Reverend Dennis Thurman officiating. Burial will be at 2:00 p.m. at the Western Carolina State Veterans Cemetery in Black Mountain. The family will receive friends from 10:30 a.m. until 12:00 noon prior to the service.
