Ray Wilson Foster, Jr., age 69, passed away on Saturday, January 28, 2012, at Silver Bluff Nursing Home. A native of Buncombe County, Ray was a son of Vivian Deane Sexton Foster of Canton and the late Ray Wilson Foster, Sr. He had lived all of his life in Haywood County and was a member and former deacon of Canton Presbyterian Church. Affectionately known as "Ray Ray", he was employed as a paper carrier by The Mountaineer with 32 years of service. Ray came into this world with both physical and mental challenges yet handled all of his obstacles with a huge smile on his face. Ray was a very sociable person who never met a stranger and was very outgoing. He was especially proud of his family and could be very opinionated about many things. "Ray Ray" will always be remembered for his dedicated service to the public through his paper deliveries in Canton and will remain in our hearts as someone who never gave up no matter what. He enjoyed watching TV and loved to travel especially to Disney World. In addition to his mother, he is survived by two sisters, Alta Foster of Lake Junaluska, and Mary Burrus and her husband, Sam, of Canton; one brother, George M. Foster and his wife, Patsy, of Canton; six nieces and nephews, Clara Ray Burrus, Brainard Burrus II, Tracy Foster Hall, Stephanie Shepherd, Cathy Prince, Jimmy Steppleton; and several cousins. A memorial service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday, February 1, 2012 at Canton Presbyterian Church with the Reverend Esta Jarrett and Reverend Riley Covin officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following the service at the church. Memorials may be made to the Canton Presbyterian Church, 190 Main Street, Canton, NC 28716.
