Ray Johnson, age 71, of 3 Boydston Street passed away Saturday, January 21, 2006 at St. Joseph's Hospital. He was a native and lifelong resident of Haywood County and the son of the late Walter and Lois Mathews Johnson. He was also preceded in death by two brothers, Richard and Harry Johnson and a sister, Katherine Burch. He retired from Champion International in 1995 with 37 years of service and attended Calvary Baptist Church. Ray loved fishing, sports, quiet walks, his friends at McDonalds, bluegrass music and his beloved and faithful dogs, Sudie, Taco, and Jake. He was an United States Army veteran. In addition to his wife of 52 years, Sandra Scott Johnson of Canton, he is survived by a daughter, Kim Jackson and her fiancée, David Cutshall of Canton; two sons, William "Billy" Johnson and his wife, Brenda of Candler and Kelly Ray Johnson and his fiancée, Ateia Hamlin of Canton; three sisters, Doris Powell and Nellie Almond of Clyde and Clara Green of Tignall, GA as well as three grandchildren, Stacey and Kendra Johnson and Kane Jackson. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, January 23, 2006 at the Canton Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with the Reverend Dennis Ruff officiating. Burial will follow at Bon-A-Venture Cemetery, Old Clyde Road. The family will receive friends from 9:45 until 10:45 a.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.
