Ray Sanford

Ray Sanford, born on April 11, 1949, in Haywood County, passed away at his residence on January 2, 2025. He dedicated his life to service and community, an embodiment of kindness and care.

Ray had a varied career, initially working at Dayco before spending several years as a custodian at the Haywood County School System. His commitment to his work was matched only by his deep devotion to his church and community. As a revered member of Woodland Baptist Church, he not only contributed his time but also served as the groundskeeper, ensuring that the church grounds were always beautifully maintained.

Beyond his professional obligations, Ray was known for his generous spirit, often lending a helping hand to neighbors and friends in need. His love for farming and gardening highlighted his connection to the earth, where he found both joy and solace. Whether through tending to crops or mowing lawns, Ray demonstrated an unwavering dedication to his community.

Ray is survived by his aunt, Pat Henline, along with numerous loving cousins who will remember him fondly. He was preceded in death by his father, Hardy Sanford; his mother, Valerie Sanford; and three uncles, Clannie Henline (Alma and Florence), Craig Henline, and Fred Henline (Corena).

In remembering Ray Sanford, we celebrate a life marked by service, love, and unwavering commitment to those around him. His legacy will endure in the hearts of all who knew him.

Funeral Service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, January 12, 2025, at Woodland Baptist Church. Visitation will be held from 2:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. prior to the service. Burial will follow at Garret-Hillcrest Memorial Park.
