Ray Welch

Candler-Ray Marshall Welch-92 died Sunday, October 27, 2002 at Memorial Mission Hospital.

He was born August 7, 1910 in Haywood County and was the son of the late Pinkney O. and Hester Harkins Welch. He was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley L. Welch in August 2000, an infant son, Harry Wayne Welch and two sisters, Bertie Brown and Virginia Trantham. He retired from American Enka and was a member of Ridgeway Baptist Church where he was a deacon and taught Sunday school for many years.

He is survived by two sons, Gary and Joel Welch of Candler, one daughter, Brenda Sproles and her husband, Ron of Summerville, SC, one sister, Clara Lou Fish of Canton, three grandsons, Jeremy Welch and Randy and Mike Sproles, one great-granddaughter, Lauren Rae Sproles and several nieces and nephews.

Memorial services will be held at Ridgeway Baptist Church on Thursday, October 31, 2002 at 7:00 p.m. with Reverend Jack W. Collins and Reverend G. H. Shope, Jr., officiating. The family will receive friends from 5:30 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. prior to the service at the church.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Ridgway Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, 525Old US 19-23 Hwy, Candler, NC 28715.
