Rayburn "Ray" Harold Williams, passed away on August 27, 2024, at Silver Bluff Nursing Home. He was born on April 5, 1938, in Haywood County, to the late Joseph Spurgeon Williams and Leona Sales Williams.
Ray spent his professional life as a chemical tech at Champion Papermill, contributing his skills and dedication to the industry for many years. In addition to his career, he honorably served his country in the United States Coast Guard, reflecting his commitment to service and duty.
Anyone that knew Ray knew his quick-wit, mischievous sense of humor, and love for pranking people. He had a passion for learning and was always excited to share his knowledge whether you asked for it or not. Ray never met a stranger, always loved meeting new friends as well as old. He will be loved and missed, dearly.
Ray is survived by his children Allison Adams and Joseph Williams along with one sister; Bernice Crowder (Chick) and his grandchildren: Miranda Archer (Jason), Shayne Tucker (Susan), Kimberlyn Roberts (Hunter), Jenna Montalbano, Dana Williams, Sessalee Williams, Andrew Kimmerly (Stephanie), and seven great grandchildren, who brought great joy and pride to his life.
He was preceded in death by his son, Duane Rayburn Williams; four brothers, Spurgeon Williams, J.E. Williams, Dudley Williams, and Thomas Williams; two sisters, Nevil Lee Cope and Blonde "Tootsie "Williams.
A formal service will be scheduled for Mr. Williams at a later date in the fall.
The care of Mr. Williams has been entrusted to Wells Funeral Home of Waynesville
