Raymond O'Neil

Raymond O'Neil, age 79, died Saturday, June 1, 2007, at Haywood Regional Medical Center. He was a native and lifelong resident of Haywood County and was the son of the late Toss and Olli Howell O'Neil. Raymond was also preceded in death by a son, LeFaine O'Neil, who died March 2003. He retired from Dayco in 1984 with 37 years of service and was a member of East Fork Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon. Raymond was known for taking care of others and was a noted guitar picker and singer. He loved his horses, especially his pal "Buckshot". He is survived by his wife, Louise Stamey O'Neil; two daughters, Patricia Blaylock and her husband, Phillip, of Bethel and Renee Whitmire and her husband, Jimmy, of Fairview; a sister, Bertha Hooper of Cruso community; three grandchildren, Curtis Blaylock of Fairview, Brad Blaylock of Canton and Ashley Whitmire of Fairview and two great-grandchildren, Nathan and Garrett Blaylock of Fairview. Funeral services will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Monday, June 4, 2007, at East Fork Baptist Church with the Reverend Johnny Foster, Reverend Matt Pruett and Reverend Greg Cullen officiating. Burial will follow at Gwyn Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2:00 until 4:00 p.m. prior at the church. Pallbearers will be Floyd O'Neil, David O'Neil, Dale O'Neil, Randy Pope, Dwight Trull, and Brian O'Neil. Honorary pallbearers will be Tracy O'Neil and Bucky O'Neil. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Disease Association, Western Carolina Chapter, 31 College Place, Ste D320, Asheville, NC 28801-2644.
