Raymond Rathbone

RAYMOND C. RATHBONE

Maggie Valley-Raymond Cagle Rathbone, age 88, formerly of Maggie Valley, died Thursday, September 12, 2002 in Anderson, SC.

A native of Haywood County, he was the son of the late Seldon Randolph and Annabelle Rathbone. He was also preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Wilda Leida Setzer Rathbone, who died in 2000 and three grandchildren, Larry Heath Rathbone, Barry Rathbone, and Sharon Rathbone. He was a US Army veteran of World War II having received the bronze star and victory medals.

He is survived by three daughters, Anne Ray of Lakeland, Florida, Catherine Martin of Anderson, SC, and Aletha Edwards of Travelers Rest, SC; eight sons, Albert and Larry Rathbone of Clyde, Tom Rathbone of Maggie Valley, James and Jacob Rathbone of Waynesville, Raymond Rathbone, Jr. of Canton, Sidney Rathbone of Sylva, and Charlie Rathbone of Hickory, NC; a sister, Betty Curtis, of Morganton; 16 grandchildren; and 17 great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, September 15, 2002 in the Waynesville chapel of Wells Funeral Home with Reverend Alan Greene and Reverend Jerry Nelson officiating. Burial will follow at Green Hill Cemetery with military graveside rites performed by a detachment from Ft. Bragg, the VFW Post 5202, and American Legion Post 47. Pallbearers will be Mike Boyd, Marty Moody, Kevin Rathbone, Travis Shipman, Jerry Green, and Dale Price. The family will receive friends from 7:00-9:00 p.m. Saturday, September 14, 2002 at the funeral home.
