Rebecca Anderson

June 20, 1922 — November 3, 2011

Rebecca Williamson Anderson, a devoted wife and mother passed away on Thursday, November 3, 2011 at the John F. Keever, Jr. Solace Center. Rebecca married Winton Anderson, her husband of 67 years, and immediately began to work and sacrifice to create a better life for her family. She was the last surviving member of a family of four children from Wendell, NC. A native of Wake County, she was the daughter of the late James Raeford and Anna Smith Williamson and was also preceded in death by two sisters, LaRue Robertson and Sulou Ewing and one brother, James Williamson. Rebecca was a lifelong Baptist and was active in her churches in Wendell, Creedmoor and Waynesville, all in North Carolina. Rebecca was everything embodied in the words "wife and mother." The joys of her life were doing for her family, the Christmas season and gathering her family at Lake Chatuge. She gave her life to her children and managing the home so her husband could build a family business. Andy has said "All that I am and have I owe to Rebecca". Her children feel the same way. She was the most giving person we have ever known. She is survived by her husband, Winton "Andy" Anderson, and four loving children, Janet A. Sigmon and her husband, Charles, of Wake Forest and Susan Anderson Morrison and her husband, Fred, of Waynesville; two sons, Fredrick Anderson and his wife, Annette, of Raleigh and Steve Anderson and his wife, Pam, of Canton; eight grandchildren; and six great grandchildren. Join her family in the celebration of a life well lived at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 5, 2011 in the Sanctuary of the First Baptist Church of Waynesville with Reverend Dick Maples and Reverend Dr. Robert Prince officiating. Burial will follow at Green Hill Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be David Sigmon, Brandon Anderson, Michael Anderson, Patrick Bradshaw, Jeff Carpenter, and Dr. Jason Shook. The family will receive friends from 12:30 until 1:45 p.m. prior to services at the church. Memorials may be made to the Waynesville Garden Club-HCC Horticultural Scholarship Fund, 626 Country Club Drive, Waynesville, NC 28786 or the John F. Keever, Jr. Solace Center, P.O. Box 25338, Asheville, NC 28813.
