Rebecca Chafin

Waynesville-Rebecca Jane Chafin, age 58, of 6 Mountain View Drive, passed away Friday, October 27, 2006 at her residence after fighting a very courageous battle with lung and brain cancer. She was a native and lifelong resident of Haywood County and was the daughter of Robert Miles Chafin, Sr. and Nina Wright Chafin. She was preceded in death by her father who died in 1990 and her maternal grandparents, Hugh and Margaret Wright and her paternal grandparents, Thad and Rebecca Chafin. Becky was in the last graduating class of Waynesville Township High School in 1966 and also graduated from Appalachian State University. She taught math at Tuscola High School and was General Manager of Sammons Communications for 14 years and was also employed with Burgin Construction Company prior to her illness. She was an avid supporter and contributor of the American Red Cross and she loved her cats. She was a member of First United Methodist Church of Waynesville. She is survived by her mother, Nina Wright Chafin of Waynesville; a sister, Elaine Madison and her husband, James of Virginia Beach, VA; two brothers, Robert Miles Chafin and his wife, Patricia, of Ashebown, AR and Ted Caldwell of Estill Springs, TN; two nieces, four nephews, seven great nieces and three great nephews. The family will receive friends at Wells Funeral Home of Waynesville, Monday, October 30, 2006 from 4:00 until 6:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers memorials may be sent to SARGE'S Animal Rescue Foundation, P.O. Box 854, Waynesville, NC 28786.
