Rena Carpenter

Waynesville-Rena Messer Carpenter, age 88, 216 Carpenter Way, passed away on Tuesday, October 11, 2005 at her residence. A native of Haywood County, she was the daughter of the late William and Vessie Parton Messer. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, George Carpenter, who died in 2003; five brothers; and three sisters. She loved being a grandmother, cooking, and gardening. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Waynesville. She is survived by a daughter, Carolyn Sawyer and her husband, Michael; two grandchildren, Caroline and George Sawyer; and a sister, Juanita Bryson and her husband, Mack, all of Waynesville and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 on Friday, October 14, 2005 at First Presbyterian Church of Waynesville with Reverend Josh Cole officiating. The family will receive friends on Thursday evening from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. at Wells Funeral Home of Waynesville. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Waynesville Presbyterian Church, 305 N. Main Street, Waynesville, NC 28786 or charity of one's choice.
