Rena Cathey

Waynesville, Rena Cathey, age 95, passed away on Friday, November 4, 2011 at Autumn Care of Waynesville. A native and lifelong residence of Haywood County, she was the daughter of the late Grady and Emma Louise Smathers Cathey. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Charles Burton Cathey. Rena graduated from Greensboro Woman's College where she earned a Master's Degree in child Psychology. She retired from Haywood County Department of Social Services as a Social Worker. Rena loved her family dearly and was a member of Long's United Methodist Church. She is survived by a sister, Terry Cathey Hall of Canton; and a brother, James Webster Cathey and his wife, Aileen of Waynesville. A private graveside service was held Sunday, November 6, 2011 at Long's Community Cemetery with Reverend Gerald T. Denham officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Long's United Methodist Church, 1097 Coffee Branch Road, Canton, NC 28716.
