Retha Blackwell

Candler- Retha Rebecca Blackwell, 80, of 11 Mountain Brook Drive, died on Tuesday, March 28, 2006 at Pisgah Manor Nursing Home. She was a native of Haywood County but had lived most of her life in Buncombe County. She was a daughter of the late Henry Robinson and Thelma Robinson Duckett. She was preceded in death by one sister, Ruth Ellen Blackwell. Mrs. Blackwell retired from American Enka Crop. in 1981 and was a member of Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church. She is survived by her husband of 61 years, Houston C. Blackwell; one daughter, Alpha Downs of Asheville, one son, Bob Blackwell and his wife, Carol, of Candler; one brother, Clyde Duckett and his wife, Jean, of Clyde, four grandchildren, John Babb his wife, Beth, Barry Babb, Lisa Russell and husband, Brian and Sheri Blackwell; one great-grandchild, Bradley Russell, as well as aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, March 31, 2006 at Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church with Reverend Phillip Hurst officiating. Burial will follow at Crawford /Ray Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 12:00 until 2:00 p.m. prior to the services at the church. Wells Funeral Home of Canton is in charge of arrangements.
