Canton-Reverend William Carter Parham, age 87, formerly of Murray Road died Sunday, February 8, 2004 at Silver Bluff Nursing Home.
He was a native and lifelong resident of Haywood County and was a son of the late Lonnie and Elizabeth Rymer Parham. He was married to the late Mary Wilson Parham who died in 1998 and was also preceded in death by a son, Boyce Parham and a daughter, Gail Lewis, two sisters, Delia Rhinehart and Gencie Nelson, two brothers, Robert Parham and Ray Parham. Carter retired from Champion International with 35 years of service. He was a member of Welcome Hill Baptist Church and was the pastor at Meadow Grove Baptist Church for over 20 years and ministered at numerous churches throughout his lifetime.
He is survived by two sons, J. L. Parham and his wife Verneta of Canton and Jimmy Parham and his wife Shirley of Fletcher, one brother, Charlie Parham of Leicester, 6 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews and special caregiver, sister in-law, Hilda Wilson.
Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, February 11, 2004 at the Canton Chapel of Wells Funeral Homes & Cremation Services. Reverend Ronnie Jenkins and Reverend Rick Parham will officiate. All fellow ministers who knew Carter are invited to serve as honorary pallbearers. Burial will follow at Long's Community Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. At other times, the family will be at his son, J. L. Parham, 117 Silver Bluff Drive, Canton, NC 28716.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the charity of one's choice.
