Rev. Rogers, Jr.

Canton-The Reverend Lucious Jay Rogers, Jr.-age 81 of Lake Logan Road died Thursday, September 18, 2003 at Haywood Regional Medical Center.

He was a son of the late Lush and Lucy Green Rogers and was the husband of Maude Queen Rogers. They were sweethearts since the 3rd grade. He was also preceded in death by 3 brothers; Harry G. Rogers, Lindsey Rogers and Jennings Rogers; 2 sisters, Hazel Phillips and Jessie Allison and one son-in-law; Bill Mehaffey. He was an avid gardener and a member of Burnett Siding Baptist Church. He was a minister for 28 years at Burnette Cove Baptist Church and East Canton Baptist Church He was the founder of gospel singing on Mt. Lyn Lowery and was on the planning committee for 26 years.

In addition to his wife of 60 years, he is survived by two daughters; Gail Mehaffey of Waynesville and Linda Parker and her husband Blaine of Canton, two sons, Lucius Steve Rogers and his wife Erlinda of Waynesville and Mark Bryan and his wife Pam of Canton, one sister; Gladys Snypes of Black Mountain, two brothers; Don Rogers and Vaughn Rogers, both of Canton, 5 grandchildren; Manuel and Anthony Rogers, Chad and Jeremy Parker and Shannon Trantham and 5 great-grandchildren; Dexter, Madison and Caleb Rogers and Natalie and Seth Trantham.

Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, September 21, 2003 at Burnett Siding Baptist Church with Reverend Carl Presnell, Reverend James Stinnett and Reverend Ted Reeves officiating. Burial will follow at the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. Saturday at Wells Funeral Home of Canton. At other times, the family will be at the home of Lucious Rogers, 82 Rogers Hill Road, Canton, NC 28716.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Burnett Siding Baptist Church Missionary Fund, 7321 Lake Logan Road, Canton, NC 28716.
