Reverend Bumgarner

Born in Waynesville, North Carolina on March 22, 1919 Departed on January 30, 2006 and resided in Crawfordville, FL. Candler- Reverend Wiley Bumgarner - age 86 died January 30, 2006 at Eden Springs Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Crawfordville, Florida. He was a native of Haywood County but had resided in Buncombe County before moving to live with his son in Tallahassee three years ago. Reverend Bumgarner was a graduate of Southern Theological Seminary, Furman University, Mars Hill College and Arizona State University. He served as Pastor of several Baptist churches in N.C., Virginia and S.C. He also taught school in Nevada, Arizona and North Carolina. He was the author of four books Prayer and Religion. Reverend Bumgarner was a United States Navy Veteran and served in the Pacific during World War II. Reverend Bumgarner was a son of the late Julius and Julia Lanning Bumgarner. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Bena Metcalf and Evelyn Sorrells and seven brothers, Bill, Claude, Fred, Henry, Jess, Jim, and Larry Bumgarner. He is survived by his wife, of almost 60 years, Hazel Gaddy Bumgarner; one son, Barry Bumgarner and his wife Barbara of Tallahassee and three grandchildren, Beth Ann, Billy and Becca Bumgarner, all of Tallahassee. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, February 4, 2006 in the Canton Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with the Reverend Hugh Bumgarner officiating. Burial will follow at Pisgah View Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6:30 until 8:30 p.m. Friday evening at the funeral home.
