Canton-Reverend Vaughn Burnette, age 69, of Old Mine Road died Tuesday, August 31, 2004 at his residence. He was a native of Haywood County and was a son of the late John Carl and Pearl Singleton Burnette. He was also preceded in death by his brother, Scott Burnette; two sisters, Thelma and Lizzie Burnette, two grandchildren Audra Davis and Nathan Clubb. He was a retired employee of Champion International with 37 years of service. In his early 20's, he accepted Jesus Christ as his Savior and began a life of Christian service and ministry throughout Western North Carolina. Reverend Burnette was the first minister to preach on WPTL and was active in prison ministry for over 20 years. He was a former minister of the Full Gospel Baptist Tabernacle and the Tabernacle Baptist Church in Jackson County and the Original Church of God He also conducted services at the Welco Union Hall and was the present minister at the Full Gospel Holiness Church on Old Clyde Road. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Leona Mashburn Burnette, five daughters, Patsy Davis and her husband Edward of Hickory, Martha Whitley and her husband Ronnie and Rachel Clubb and her husband Doyle, all of Canton, Yvonne Dippy of the home and Sharon Kern and her husband Tony of Vale, NC, three sons, David Burnette and his wife Teresa and Steve Burnette and his wife Amanda, all of Canton, and Zachary Davis Burnette of the home, three sisters and their husbands, Leitha and Dutch Pinkerton of Candler, Lena and R. C. Chastain and Emaline and Morgan Davis, all of Canton, two brothers, Luther Burnette of Waynesville and J. C. Burnette and his wife Peggy of Canton, 11 grandchildren, Laura Davis, Tonya Whitley, Byron and Bianca Burnette, Angela, Mitchell and Amanda Medford, Christopher Burnette, Brittany and Justin Burnette and Josh Clubb and one great-granddaughter Alexis Brianna Payne. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, September 4, 2004 at the Full Gospel Holiness Church. Reverend Frank Wyatt, Reverend Spencer Tilley and Reverend Gerald Jenkins will officiate. Burial will follow at Riverside Cemetery in Canton. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Friday at Wells Funeral Homes & Cremation Services of Canton. At other times, the family will be at the home.
