Reverend Hamilton

Lake Junaluska, Reverend James Robert Hamilton, age 88, passed away on November 6, 2014 at The Homestead. A native of New Bern, North Carolina, he was the son of the late Guy and Bertie May Hamilton and was also preceded in death by his wife of 49 years, Mary Moore Hamilton. He attended Brevard and High Point Colleges and began working at Lake Junaluska. He also was employed at The Canton Enterprise and The Mountaineer as a photographer and lithographer. He graduated from Emory University in 1974 with a Masters in Divinity and served as a minister in the WNC Conference of the Methodist Church from 1973 – 1992, retiring to his home at Lake Junaluska. He was a member of Clyde Central United Methodist Church. Reverend Hamilton is survived by daughters, Elizabeth Modlin, June Bost, Susan Hamilton and Laura Palmer; four grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, November 9 at the Memorial Chapel at Lake Junaluska with Reverend Dan Gaddy and Reverend Jim Hart officiating. Burial will follow at Bon-A-Venture Cemetery in Clyde. The family will receive friends one hour prior to services at the Memorial Chapel.
