Waynesville, Reverend Dr. Virgil Holloway, age 82, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, January 22, 2013 surrounded by his family. A native of Derma, Mississippi, he was the son of the late Leroy T. and Irene White Holloway. He was also preceded in death by his first wife, Margaret Holloway, who died in 1983; a son, Larry S. Holloway; two stepsons, Garry and Barry Eavenson; and a brother, Virdel Holloway. He served in the US Air Force. Reverend Holloway was a faithful and dedicated servant of God. His joy on earth came from sharing the Lord's glorious word and visiting the sick. He was a member of the Haywood Baptist Association, past president of the Pisgah Camp Meeting Association, and Director of Missions for the Tuckaseigee Baptist Association. He served as pastor and teacher for more than fifty years at many area churches including, West End Baptist, Community Baptist, Holly Mount Baptist, Yadkin Baptist, Pleasant Balsam Baptist, Pole Creek Baptist, Hyland Heights, Grandview Baptist, Maranatha Baptist, and Beulah Baptist. He is survived by his wife of 28 years, Valerie Holloway; three daughters, Ann Plemmons and husband, Randy, Donna McCracken and husband, Greg, and Audria Hempel and husband, Robin, all of Candler; two stepdaughters, Patsy Plemmons and husband, Larry, of Surfside Beach, South Carolina and Peggy Messer and husband, Manson, of Waynesville; two stepsons, Tommy Eavenson of Canton and Scotty Eavenson and wife, Kathy, of Waynesville; one sister, Opal Henry of West Point, Mississippi; two brothers, Lee Holloway and wife, Pat, of Georgia and Jerry Holloway and wife, Dorothy, of Mississippi; many grandchildren; and great-grandchildren. A Celebration of Life service will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 24, 2013 at Calvary Road Baptist Church with Reverend John Swanger, III, Reverend Chris Willett and Mr.Marvin Downs officiating. Private interment will be at Buchanan Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be Randy Plemmons, Greg McCracken, Robin Hempel, Larry Plemmons, Tommy Eavenson, Manson Messer, Blayne Earley, and Wayne Davis. The family will receive friends from 4:00 until 7:00 p.m. prior to services at the church. Memorials may be made to Calvary Road Baptist Church Building Fund, 77 Sutton Loop, Waynesville NC 28786.
