Waynesville, Reverend Gerald Allen Jacobson, age 79, passed away on Tuesday, January 6, 2015 at St. Joseph's Hospital. Gerald grew up farming in northern Minnesota. There he met Janis through church activities; they were married in 1957 and eventually moved to Atlanta to attend Emory University Candler School of Theology. He was a member of the North Georgia Methodist Conference for 18 years. Gerald served various churches in Atlanta until 1975, when he began a career in real estate. In 2005, Gerald and Janis moved to Waynesville where they instantly became active at Long's Chapel United Methodist Church. He was involved in the Tullis Sunday School Class and initiated the "Stained Glass Ministry." With the help of fifty-plus volunteers, this ministry is about to complete forty stained glass windows. The "Stained Glass Ministry" was born out of Gerald's calling and passion for sharing the love of God and the Great Commission. He was also active with the Waynesville Kiwanis Club, serving as its past president. Gerald was very creative and artistic and also loved genealogy. He was a faithful servant of God and found great joy and love in his family. Reverend Jacobson is survived by his wife of 57 years, Janis Maurine Ewing Jacobson; a son, Michael Jacobson and wife, Barbara, of Marietta, Georgia; two daughters, Debbie Coffee of Winder, Georgia and Judy Dodson and husband, Brad, of Waynesville; sister, Petra Roquet, of Moorhead, Minnesota; seven grandchildren, Andrew and Beth Jacobson, Chris, Amber and Tim Coffee, and Cora Grace and Marna Dodson; and three great-grandchildren, Karma Neese, and Cadence and Lydia Coffee. Funeral services will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 10, 2015 at Long's Chapel United Methodist Church with Reverend Tim McConnell and Reverend Justin Lowe officiating. Burial will follow at Green Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. on Friday at Wells Funeral Home of Waynesville.
