Reverend Parker

Waynesville-Reverend George Burton Parker, age 74, of Rabbit Skin Road, died Tuesday, May 30, 2006 at his residence. He was a native of Franklin, NC, but had lived in Haywood County for the past 54 years. He was the son of the late Jahue and Minnie Nichols Parker and was also preceded in death by a sister, Vannah West and brothers, JL "John" and Charlie Parker. He was a member of Panther Creek Baptist Church. Reverend Parker was a United States Air Force Veteran for 4 ½ years serving in Germany during the Korean Conflict. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Bobbie Green Parker; three daughters, Ava June Griffith and her husband, Karl, of St. Peters, MO, Teresa Ray of St. Petersburg, FL, and Kathy Jones and her husband, Lawny, of Waynesville; one son, Stephen Parker, and his wife, Tina, of Waynesville; three sisters, Ermine Brown and her husband, Charles, of Miami, FL, Patrice Smith of Richmond, VA, and Mary Lee Volin of Las Vegas, NV; one brother, Eugene Parker, and his wife, Rachael, of Waynesville; nine grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, June 2, 2006 at Panther Creek Baptist Church with Reverend Jerry Nelson, Reverend Billy Ferguson, and Reverend Ronald Greene officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. on Thursday evening at Wells Funeral Home of Waynesville.
