Canton – Reverend Jack Millard Scott, Sr., age 88, of the North Hominy community passed away on his birthday, Tuesday, March 7, 2017 at Autumn Care of Waynesville. A native of Buncombe County, he was the son of the late Reverend Irvin Washington and Maude Roberts Scott. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by a son, Jack Millard Scott, Jr.; four brothers, Carroll, Jerome, Bobby, and Burder Scott; two sisters, Maryland and Juanita Worley. Reverend Scott was a veteran of the United States Army serving during the Korean Conflict as a Corporal in the Military Police. He was employed with Champion International. In 54 years in the ministry, Reverend Scott pastored four churches, Beaverdam Baptist, Long Branch Baptist, Burnette Siding Baptist, and Laurel Grove Baptist and was a member of Canton First Baptist Church. Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 66 years, Lois Carver Scott; a daughter, Janet Burke and her husband, Jimmy; a son, Jeffrey Scott all of Canton; a twin sister, Jean Scott Cole; three grandsons, Brandon Allen and his wife, Mandy, Blake Scott and his wife, Lacie; and Aaron Burke; four great-grandchildren, Dakota and Joseph Scott and Avery and Eli Allen. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 11, 2017 at Canton First Baptist Church with Reverend Doug Worley, Reverend Billy Ferguson and Reverend Phillip Wyatt officiating. Burial will follow at Beaverdam Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Friday evening at Wells Funeral Home of Canton.
