Reverend Teague

Waynesville, Reverend Jarvis W. Teague, age 92 of 108 Lazy Circle died Saturday, February 14, 2009 at Haywood Regional Medical Center. Reverend Teague was born in White Oak on October 4, 1916 and was the son of the late James Lawson and Mattie Russell Teague. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his first wife, Maude White Teague who died in 1964; and three brothers, France, Sherrill and David Teague. He graduated from Fines Creek High School in 1936. Jarvis was a graduate of Mars Hill College, Wake Forest University and attended Southern Baptist Seminary. He received his first teaching position at Fines Creek School in 1940 teaching the 6th grade. He taught at Fines Creek, Spring Creek, Crabtree-Iron Duff, Bethel, Tuscola, Pisgah, and Special Education at Waynesville Jr. High for 15 years before retiring in 1986. Reverend Teague's first Pastorate was Fines Creek Baptist Church in 1940. From 1940 to 1995 he was pastor at Fines Creek, Rock Springs, Burney-Indiana, Ashley's Grove, Galatia, Lasker, Menola, Creeksville, Meherrin, Marshall, Enterprise, Littleton, Lusk Chapel, Antioch for 27 years, East Waynesville, Sunny Point, and Belmont. He was in the Ministry for 72 years and preached his last Sermon in September of 2008 at the age of 91. He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Edith York White Teague; four sons, Reverend Michael Teague, and his wife, Tawana, of Marion VA, Alvin Teague, Thomas Teague, and his wife, Suzanne, Bill Teague, and his wife, Jeanie all of Waynesville ;one stepson, Daniel D. White, of Eastern, NC, 15 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, February 17, 2009 at Antioch Baptist Church with Reverend Steve Taylor, Reverend Dr. Jack Sammons, Reverend Lloyd Fish and Reverend Gary Putnam officiating. Burial will follow at Fines Creek Memorial Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Monday, February 16, 2009 at Wells Funeral Home of Waynesville.
