Reverend Toney, Sr.

"Greatest Husband, Father, & Grandfather" Canton – Reverend James Herman Toney, Sr., 67, passed away on Friday, June 2, 2017 at his residence. A native of Rutherford County, he was the son of the late Oliver Adam and Betty Lee Calloway Toney. Reverend Toney, Sr. attended Lee University and received a Bachelor Degree in Biblical Studies. He began pastoring in 1976 and pastored five churches in a 40 years span. Reverend Toney, Sr. pastored Mountain View Church of God for 24 years. In his ministries, he had a weekly visitation and nursing home ministry. Reverend Toney, Sr. had a heart for mission ministries especially in South America. He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Dita Crain Toney; a daughter, Dana Ball and husband, Mark, Sr.; one son, James Toney and wife, Tina, all of Canton; four grandsons, Mark Ball, Jr., Justin Ball, Josh Toney, and Andrew Toney; and many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, June 4, 2017 at Mountain View Church of God with Pastor Bobby Brooks, Pastor John Nations, and Pastor E.L. Turner officiating. Burial will follow at Bethel Community Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be Mark Ball, Jr., Justin Ball, Josh Toney, Andrew Toney, Tucker Brooks, and David Pressley. The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 3:00 p.m. prior to the service at the church. Wells Funeral Home of Canton is in charge of the arrangements.
