REVEREND ROY R. WOOD

Waynesville-Reverend Roy R. Wood, age 75, of Crymes Cove Road, went to be with the Lord on Monday, February 10, 2003 at his residence.

He was the son of the late Sidney Hardin and Mary Emma Moody Wood. He was a native of Gaston County, NC having lived most of his life in Haywood County.

He was preceded in death by three brothers, Cordell, Howard, and Willie Wood, and by a sister, Opal Wood Rathbone, and by a son-in-law, Eddie Johnson.

He retired from the Town of Waynesville, Electric and Water Departments, after 30 years of service. He is also a retired fireman with the Waynesville Fire Department after 25 years, and he is a retired minister. He was an avid fisherman and hunter and loved gardening. He was a Navy veteran having served during WWII.

He is survived by his wife of 55 1/2 years, Ruth Bridges Wood; two daughters, Carolyn Wood Davis and her husband Steve, and Sharon Wood Franks and her husband Gary, all of Waynesville; one son, Rick Wood and his wife Erni, of Mills River; one brother, T. A. Wood, of Memphis, TN; five grandchildren, three great grandchildren, 5 step-grandchildren and 6 step great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, February 13, 2003 at Calvary Road Baptist Church, of which he was a member. The Reverends J. D. Grant, Todd West, Phillip Wyatt, Darrell Webb and Mike Leslie will officiate. Burial will be at Green Hill Cemetery, with graveside rites conducted by the Buncombe County Firefighters Honor Guard. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. Wednesday, February 12, 2003 at Wells Funeral Home in Waynesville where the body will remain until placed in the church one hour prior to service.
