Richard "Pete" DeWeese, age 68, of the North Hominy community, died Thursday, April 15, 2010 at his residence. A native of Haywood County, he was a son of the late Roba and Juanita Scruggs DeWeese. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters and an infant son, Steven DeWeese. He was employed with Blue Ridge Paper Products for 24 years and retired in 2004. Pete helped build the new sanctuary at Rocky Face Baptist Church, of which he was a member. He was one of the most generous men you'd ever meet and he would always lend a helping hand. Pete was a United States Army veteran. He loved all animals and was a wonderful husband and father. He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Patricia Ann Conard DeWeese; two sons, Ritchie DeWeese and his wife, Tammy, and Tim DeWeese; one daughter, Darla Henderson and her husband, James, all of Canton; one sister, Ann Moffitt and her husband, Charles; three granddaughters, Faith DeWeese, Laura Henderson, and Catherine Putnam. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, April 19, 2010 at Rocky Face Baptist Church with the Reverend Donnie Henson officiating. Burial will follow at Plains United Methodist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. Sunday evening at the church. Wells Funeral Home & Cremation Services of Canton is in charge of the arrangements.
