Richard Green

November 7, 1936 — January 15, 2008

Candler—Richard Odell Green, age 71, of South Brooks Cove Road, died on Tuesday, January 15, 2008 at John F. Keever Solace Center. He was a native of Haywood County and had lived in Candler for the past 38 years. He was the son of the late Marion and Zannie Burgess Green. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Michael Green and a stepson, Jarvie Ewart. He was a welder for Asheville Steel and Aldens Steel and retired in 2006 from Pisgah View Ranch’s maintenance department after 17 years employment. He enjoyed bird-watching and flower gardening and was a member of Maple Ridge Baptist Church. He is survived by his wife of 37 years, Mildred Rich Green; two sons, Charles Odell Green of SC and Randy Green of Waynesville; one step-son, Terry Ewart and his wife, Donna of Waynesville; one stepdaughter, Vickie Shipman and husband, Joe, of Canton; two sisters, Edna Bradley of Clyde and Margie Castillo of Mercedes, TX; two brothers, Milford Green of Canton and David Green of WV; seven grandchildren; and eleven great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 17, 2008 in the Waynesville Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with Reverend Austin Watts, Reverend Jerry Nelson, and Reverend Mark Lamm officiating. Burial will follow at Forest Lawn Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be David Ewart, Jason and J. R. Rogers, Anthony Watts, Eddie Barker, and Dwayne and Darryle McGaha. The family will receive friends from 12:00 until 2:00 p.m. prior to services.
