Richard Washington Haney, age 70, of Edgewood Drive, died Thursday, May 20, 2010 at Mission Hospitals Memorial Campus. A native of Haywood County, he was a son of the late Washington and Leslie Price Haney. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Joyce Haney, who died in 1996 and a step-son, Michael Warren. He was employed with Evergreen Packaging for 52 years and was a member of Rescue Baptist Church. Richard was the last living charter member of Local 507. He thoroughly enjoyed his job at the mill. In his spare time, he loved riding his Harley-Davidson, playing cards, but most importantly, caring for his family. Richard was also a member of the Canton Moose Lodge. He is survived by his son, Michael Haney and his wife, Leigh, of Bethel; three daughters, Rhonda Haney, Karen Deaver and her husband, Derwin, all of Waynesville, and Debbie Fincannon of Canton; two sisters, Judy Henson and her husband, Wayne of TN, and Kathy Passmore and her husband, Jerry, of Morganton; two brothers, Joe Bob Haney and his wife, Nancy, of Canton, and Jack Haney of Shelby; a special loved one, Kathy Messer and a life-long family friend, LuLu Ray; seven grandchildren, Casey and Samantha Haney, Crystal Shirley and Chris Deaver, Ronna Crowder, Stacie Glance, and Alisha Vanderhoof; and three great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, May 22, 2010 in the Canton Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with the Reverend Jesse Hollingsworth officiating. Burial will follow at Bon-A-Venture Cemetery on Newfound Road. The family will receive friends from 12:00 until 2:00 p.m. prior to the service.
