Richard Haynes

July 2, 1945 — November 1, 2007

Waynesville-Richard Morrill Haynes, age 62, of 68 Wenlock Way, died on Thursday, November 01, 2007 at Mission Hospital. A native of Boston, MA, he was the son of the late Robert Morrill and Ruth Altstetter Haynes. He earned a Bachelors degree from Florida Southern in Lakeland, Fl:, his Masters from Rollins College in Winter Park, FL: and his Doctorate from Duke University in Durham, NC. Prior to his retirement, he was the Director of Student Teaching, a Graduate Professor, and recently named Professor Emeritus at Western Carolina University where he has served since 1988. He was actively involved in the Stephen Ministry and was a member of First United Methodist Church of Waynesville. He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Dianne; two daughters, Lisa Haynes Rogers and her husband, Stephen, of Fletcher, NC and Heather Haynes Hess and her husband, Bryan, of Mableton, GA; one brother, Robert Altstetter Haynes and his wife, Shirley, of Valrico, FL; father and mother-in-law, Ted and Jane Linton, of Keene, NH; two brother-in-laws, Roger T. Linton, Jr. and his wife, Gretchen, of Randolph, VT and David M. Linton and his wife, Marie, of Winston-Salem, NC; four grandchildren, Matthew and Sarah Rogers and Aidan and Chloe Hess; several nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends. Memorial services will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Monday, November 5, 2007 at First United Methodist Church of Waynesville with Reverend Dr. W. Lyn Sorrells officiating. The family will receive friends following the service. Richard has touched the lives of many and made an impression on all who had the joy of knowing him. With his pleasant personality, smile, and candid ways, he was loved by all and will be truly missed Memorials may be made to United Network for Organ Sharing, P.O.
