Richard Kuhl

December 12, 1927 — December 3, 2004

Waynesville-Richard Joseph Kuhl, age 76, died Friday, December 3, 2004 at his residence. He was a native of Lakewood, Ohio and was the son of the late Elsie and Adelbert Kuhl. He was also preceded in death by a sister, Rita Kuhl Elmlinger. He was a graduate of St. Ignasius High School in Cleveland, Ohio and he graduated from the University of Detroit with a B.S. Degree in Mechanical Engineering. He received a Master's Degree in Engineering Administration from Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio. He was employed by Kaiser Engineers for twenty-five years, eight of which were spent in Jakarta, Indonesia. Following his retirement from Kaiser Engineers, he received an Associate's Degree in Microcomputer Technology from Haywood Community College. He was an Army Veteran having served during the Korean Conflict and was a member of St. Margaret's Catholic Church in Maggie Valley. He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Elaine Leach Kuhl; two daughters, Ann Kuhl Rose of St. Charles, Illinois, and Joan Kuhl Davis of Greencastle, Indiana; two sons, John Gardiner Kuhl of Dublin, California, and Peter Becket Kuhl of Long Beach, California; a brother, B. A. Kuhl of Aurora, Ohio; a sister, Betty Kuhl Wirth of Ballwin, Missouri; and six grandchildren. Memorial services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, December 7, 2004 at St. Margaret's Catholic Church in Maggie Valley. Father Frank Doyle will officiate. Family and friends are invited to a reception at Murphy Garden Hall immediately following the service. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made to the Haywood County Volunteer Center, 2143 Asheville Road, Waynesville, NC 28786.
