Richard Lafrenz, Sr.

Waynesville, Richard W. Lafrenz, Sr., age 68 of Pinellas Lane, died Sunday, July 6, 2008 at Harris Regional Hospital. A native of Jersey City, NJ, he had resided in Vernon, NJ and Ridgefield Park, NJ before moving to Haywood County. He was the son of the late William K. and Ida Schmidt Cook. He was a US Army veteran of the Korean Conflict. He was employed with the General Electric Company as a foreman where he retired in 2002 with 45 years of service. Richard enjoyed hunting and stream fishing in the forests of New Jersey. He served as President of the Haywood County Republican Club and was currently serving as the county chairman. Richard also loved taking photographs when traveling around the world. He was a member of St. Margaret's Catholic Church. He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Patricia Ann Steller Lafrenz; one daughter, Venetia R. Lafrenz of Chesapeak, VA; one son, Richard W. Lafrenz, and his wife, Lilla, of Sussex, NJ; and one granddaughter, Victoria Lafrenz. A funeral mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, July 11, 2008 at St Margaret's Catholic Church with Father Liam O'Doherty officiating. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. Thursday, July 10, 2008 at Wells Funeral Home of Waynesville. Memorials may be made to a local cancer society of one's choice.
