April 30, 1936 — August 19, 2013

Waynesville, Richard George "Dick" Lonnee, age 77, passed peacefully on the morning of August 19, 2013. He is survived by Sylvia, his wife of 47 years; a son, Bruce Lonnee, daughter-in-law, Gina, and grandchildren, Marin and Jack, all of Watkinsville, Georgia; a daughter, Claire Hunt, son-in-law, Jeff, and grandchildren, JC and Shanley, all of Leland, North Carolina. He is also survived by sister, Mary Ann Carter and brother, Tim Lonnee, both of Windsor, Ontario, Canada. Born in Windsor, Ontario, Canada on April 30, 1936, Dick graduated from McMaster University Divinity School in the spring of 1969 and graduated from the Presbyterian School of Christian Education in the spring of 1970. Ordained in August 1973, he served churches in Port Charlotte and Sarasota, Florida; Wilmington, North Carolina; Greenville, Mississippi; and Mequon, Wisconsin. Following "retirement" in 2001, Dick and Syl relocated to Maggie Valley, North Carolina. Soon after arriving, Dick served as interim pastor for area congregations including First Presbyterian Church (Waynesville, NC) Bryson City Presbyterian Church (Bryson City, NC), and Cullowhee Presbyterian Church (Cullowhee, NC). Most recently, Dick dedicated his time to serving as Hospice Chaplain for MedWest-Haywood Hospital, and he volunteered in several capacities with the hospital, including hospital chaplaincy. The family would like to extend deepest appreciation for the extraordinary care and support provided by all who participated in his care over these past several months, including the fine staff of the MedWest Health System. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 24, 2013 at First Presbyterian Church of Waynesville with Reverend John P. Lindsay officiating. A reception will follow in the church fellowship hall. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that any gifts be made to the First Presbyterian Church of Waynesville Building Fund, 305 North Main Street, Waynesville, NC 28786.
