Richard Kelly Watts, age 53, died Sunday, December 7, 2008, at his residence. A native of Haywood County, he was the son of the late Sidney and Corinea Anderson Watts. He was also preceded in death by his birth mother, Joyce Bramlett. He was a member of New Covenant Church for the past eight years and prior to that he was a member and deacon at Canton First Baptist Church for over 40 years. He was a radio announcer for Pisgah football and for 14 years was the "Voice of the Pisgah Bears". He worked for WPTL and WWIT radio stations. Richard's father owned WWIT radio station and he loved spending his teen years working there. He received his radio license at age 11. He was a 1973 graduate of Pisgah High School, a graduate of Truett-McConnell College and Mars Hill College where he received music degrees. Richard also graduated from UNCA where he received a degree in philosophy. He was past president of the Canton Kiwanis Club. He is survived by his wife of 12 years, Nancy Varnell Watts; a son, Brian Edwards-Watts; two daughters, Ashley Edwards-Watts and Mallory Edwards-Watts and her fiancé, Mario Garcia; three birth brothers, Kevin Stroop, Gary Bramlett, and Duane Johnson; a very special cousin, Sheila Fretz; and sister-in-heart, Julie Collins. The family will receive friends from 7:00 until 9:00 p.m. Wednesday, December 10, 2008, at Wells Funeral Home of Canton. Burial will be at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday, December 11, 2008, at Crawford/Ray Memorial Gardens. Funeral services will follow at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday at New Covenant Church with the Reverend Nick Honerkamp and Reverend Matthew Pruett officiating.
